A journal of my adventures in learning and growing personally and professionally
In the past I've commented on the topic of spam and the issues that I and a friend have had dealing with it. Well, it seems that some fine detective work and a lot of tireless effort has finally paid off for him. He finally had his
day in court and adding insult to injury with the laws in Iowa and having a nice little Federal RICO applied it came out to quite a judgment. I can only hope that this brings some understanding to the general public that spam is not a victimless crime, and that the knobs who do this are not nearly as anonymous as they think. It was personally crushing to watch the enterprise that we built get crushed under a load that never should have existed and that there were not really funds to deal with properly. There were a number of times that I advised him to just fold up shop more because of the mental strain it was putting on him and his family and partially the financial strain it put on the business because numerous outages caused customers to bail. I'm extremely happy for him that he got this victory. No, it doesn't put a stop to it, and no it's not hitting the lottery, but it does mean that the efforts that he's gone through do mean something and that he's not alone in thinking that there ought to be some recourse against spammers.
