A journal of my adventures in learning and growing personally and professionally
I'm sure this will mean that I'm doomed for the next week in whatever I play but man this was a nice evening. So I'm out of town for a family reunion and my brother-in-laws had asked me to bring my chips and stuff so they could "take my money from me." Ok I'm game, considering the only other time we've played together we played for nothing and they played like typical fish. I also played fish-like at the time since it didn't mean anything and when it's free, why put on a folding clinic?
So I get out here and a school friend of theirs is putting on a game. Keeping in mind these are all college students who wanted to play just holdem with $0.10/$0.20 blinds I figured I could at least hang and have a good time. I think all told, 10 people rotated through the game with $5 buy-ins and at least a couple of rebuys for the same. Long story short, I cleaned them
all out. Every last one of them. All of their chips belonged to me at the end of the night. I played solid poker all night long. It didn't hurt that I just couldn't seem to miss. The memorable hands were one straight flush vs. someone else's 3-of-a-kind, full houses to knock people out (I think I busted 4 or 5 folks out with houses), nut straights vs. two pair and 3-of-a-kind, nut flushes vs. smaller flushes, etc. Towards the end, I really did start feeling kind of bad because I'd play junk on the blinds and sometimes off of them just to circulate more chips and my crap would just come together. I think the big keys were going with my gut and folding when I felt I was beat on the flop (and I was proved right when it all came to the showdown for those still in), and playing aggressive against players who would call if they caught any part of the flop or had a drawing hand. On the way out they asked if we could do it again at Christmas break so I'll definitely come back to try and circulate the money again. All told the game covered the trip out this weekend, and you can't ask much more than that.
