Poker: Fish Fry

There is absolutely no reason why you should sit at a tough ring table if you're playing on Party/Empire. Granted, the soft games are a little more difficult to find, but not so much so that you shouldn't spend the time looking for them. I on the other hand, obviously knowing this, sit down at a game that after the first couple of orbits was decidedly tougher than average. Did I get up and find a softer game? No. I saw the few fish that were there and decided that I would just play a tight and solid game and take my share of the loot. Oh how silly a thought that was. I played a good game right up until I got bored. Except for the 3 fish who were in every hand and the brunson-esk individual who was betting into checked pots even when he had nothing. The rest of the 10 seat table was full of... well the sharks. Who were playing a solid game. I ended up giving away $50 by being out drawn, or in a couple of cases, just plain out played. I thought I was playing a tight and solid game, but at some point I must have hit steam mode and gotten bored with the folding clinic I was putting on because I seem to recall being down only a few bucks from paying the blinds on trash cards but not much more and then after another orbit I'm looking at $15 out of what was $50 when I sat down. Here is an example of why, after playing KTs in late position (raise for effect/value) and having the flop come KQT rainbow. Being the slick fellow that I am, I checked it knowing brunson-boy was going to bet if it checked all the way around allowing me the opportunity to check raise, which I did. Yay me. The turn was a Q and as soon as it hit, I knew I was done for. I check and it checks around to the guy with pocket Qs who bets, brunson-boy tries to make a move with his K-little to which I fold because I've already figured out I'm a huge dog here and pocket Qs re-raises. The river is a blank but that doesn't scare brunson-boy who calls the final bet from the quad queens. At least he kept him honest. Feh.

Shortly after this the power went out here at the house due to thunderstorms and while that left the laptop going, it did wipe out the internet so I was done for the night. It just came back on and I figured I'd journal this while it was still semi-fresh in my head.

In other news, I'm going to head to Indy in a couple of weeks for GenCon to hang out with my friends that are up from Austin. Every year GenCon has a poker tournament that I keep missing out on. This year I've vowed to participate and if at all possible win. Well that and somehow get in on True Dungeon again this year.
