A journal of my adventures in learning and growing personally and professionally
You would think that while you're at home laying in bed sick, that this would be a great time to break out the wireless laptop and put some time in at the tables. It's not like you've got anything else to do but sleep. This was the position I found myself in yesterday. I'll just state for the record right now, that playing when you're not 100% mentally and physically in the moment is only giving yourself a handicap you don't need while playing. I'll spare you the horrific play by play details and just say that I suffered a -$160 hit to the bankroll yesterday. I tried some $2/$4 because Steel_Rain has said it's softer than Charmine tissue and that didn't go very well for me so then I moved down to $1/$2 and that also didn't go well. At this point I should have just quit but why stop when you're behind? I figured maybe it's because I've been playing NL lately and my limit game is crap at the moment. So I head off to a $25 NL table. Three horrible all-in outdraws later it finally dawns on me that I've just melted a significant portion of my Party bankroll and I am steamed at the miserable knob that was trying to bully the table with his fat stack (~$200). The first all-in bust was my QJs which I raise 3x the BB, it folds to the knob who goes over the top of me and it folds back around to me. Now I've been watching this guy shove people around for awhile and figure that based on what I've seen this isn't anything different. So to convince him that I won't be pushed around like the others I shove all-in with my QJs and he calls with his 62o. 62o is obviously a classic hand that you see the elite call all-in with at the toughest tournaments around the world. I was stunned when party flipped over his cards after laying down the board 6,x,2,6,x. That took some stones on his part but I resolved to tighten up a little more and kick him in the nuts every opportunity I got. Of course, apparently he resolved to no try and push me around so those opportunities didn't come up very often. Sadly, the next two times they did I had him beat, but in both occasions there was a 3rd person involved who actually ended up scraping. The first was top two pair (AK) that got sunk by runner runner flush. Nothing I could do about that one, I tried to get it heads up, but some folks are stubborn. The satisfaction there was that the knob also lost big. The next (and last one) was my ATs ace high flush getting crushed by the river house. In each of those cases I was the best hand when I got my chips into the pot so I don't think I played poorly (though that may be debatable as more time is spent analyzing it) and ultimately I was responsible for some crushing losses to the knob who was around $70 (down from $200) when I busted out the 3rd time so while it was a bad time at the tables for me, I at least was able to contribute to punishing the jackass and that made me feel a little better :)
